Having formulated a clear vision for the sustainable coffee solution, the ideation phase starts with brainstorming. The ideas are evaluated and elaborated further starting with figuring out the mechanical working principles. Lastly the exterior appearance is designed, leading into a final concept.

Exterior ideation

Regarding the exterior design, at first all types of machines are considered to find interesting and new ideas. Still, the findings from the design language analysis are taken into account: a design which is made out of basic geometrical shapes and has rounded edges is seeked for.

First idea sketches

Moving on, the integration of the mechanism is considered, as well as easy removal options for the water tank. Three options are considered: ribs or slots to slide it into and attachment with magnets.

At this point in the process, the mechanical working principle is enhanced, resulting in the exterior design to change a bit. A final design arises, that is further detailed.

Further development


Only the basic version is visualised in sketches at this stage. For the upgraded version the design will stay the same, however a milk frother will be integrated, which will be attached on the side next to the brewing head. Extra buttons are also needed, to froth the milk.

The button panel will feature three buttons, for espresso, lungo and a cleaning regime. For the deluxe version a button to froth the milk is also needed.
