Having gone through the phases of redesigning the original concept into a prototype, actually building it in the workshops and after that finding better solutions for the shape, materials and processes used for a mass product version. Now it was time to evaluate the work done starting with the two products made, but also assessing the overall project regarding planning and orientation.

Target group insights

After finding out how good the product did regarding the aims the team had set for themselves, the target group’s opinion is seeked. In the end their opinion matters the most as they are the people using Mycelio products. In order to gather the information, a survey is made (accessible on this link). After analysing the data, the following findings are concluded.

Regarding aesthetic appeal, all of the respondents gave the aesthetic look of the coffee machine a good rating. However, 40% of them mentioned that they are not as pleased with the colours available, colours like black and silver are seeked, as they are something they find more fitting for their kitchen.

When talking about the general design, the majority of respondents expressed favourable opinions about the design and stated that they would switch to the Mycelio products. All of them are happy with the comfort and the ease of use, and 87,5% valued the clarity of the button panel. Also, some respondents requested additional features such as a bigger baseplate and a disc holder.

Moving onto sustainability, all respondents are of the opinion that the design greatly outperforms the industry standard for pod coffee systems in terms of sustainability. They really appreciated that the pods can just be thrown into the green bin, without no worry.

When asked about price, the survey revealed that prices might be a bit off. As much as 50% of the respondents suggested a price range of 100-125€ for the Mycelio, while 87,5% thought that the Deluxe Mycelio price difference is way too high for the small number of additional features. Contrary to the machine prices, all the respondents are highly satisfied with the price of the coffee discs, even making the statement that this will save them so much money that they would switch to that system immediately.

Some other concerns the interviewed people mentioned is, their concern for if the taste is affected by the material of discs. From this we can clearly see that it is really important that the customers can test out the coffee in Nespresso’s boutiques before purchasing.

Overall, based on the target group’s feedback success reflects back from the sustainability and user interaction aspects, however the design and price could be improved further.
